Is Your Body Trying to Tell You Something? How Stress, Pain, and Old Patterns Show Up in Your Life

Your body may be telling you something long before your mind is ready to deal with it.
That tension in your shoulders.
The short fuse.
The exhaustion you keep blaming on work.
The feeling that you’re physically present, but mentally and emotionally somewhere else.
For many business owners, stress, anger, anxiety, and old patterns don’t just stay in the mind. They get stored in the body, then start showing up in the rest of life.
In your leadership.
In your marriage.
In your parenting.
In your intimacy.
In your ability to actually enjoy the life you’ve worked so hard to build.
In Episode 80 of Make More Love, I sit down with Shaun Zetlin, founder of Zetlin Fitness and author of Emotional Fitness and Push-Up Progression. This is Part 1 of our conversation, and while we do talk about fitness, this is not just a conversation about workouts.
It’s about what happens when your body is carrying more than you realize.
Fitness Is More Than How You Look 💪
Shaun’s story starts with struggle.
He was born with club feet, had gross motor skill challenges, and grew up as the kid who got picked last in gym class. Later, when he started training with his father, he discovered something new: what it felt like to feel strong, capable, and connected to his own body.
That experience shaped the way he thinks about fitness.
Fitness is not just about appearance. It’s about how you feel, how you move through life, and how well your body supports the person you want to be.
For high-performing men, this matters. Because you can look successful and still feel depleted, reactive, disconnected, or worn down.
Stress Does Not Stay in One Place 🧠
Stress does not stay neatly contained in your workday.
If you are carrying anger, anxiety, pressure, or old pain, it can show up physically and emotionally. It may look like tension, fatigue, irritability, pain, shutdown, or a constant sense of being on edge.
And if you are used to pushing through, you may miss the warning signs.
You keep working.
You keep providing.
You keep handling what needs to be handled.
But eventually, what goes unaddressed starts showing up in the places that matter most.
Your patience gets thinner.
Your connection with your partner weakens.
Your body feels heavier.
Your energy drops.
Your ability to be present suffers.
That is why vitality matters. Vitality includes physical, mental, and emotional health. When one part gets ignored for too long, the whole system feels it.
Old Patterns Can Shape Adult Behavior ⚠️
Shaun and I also talk about how early experiences can shape the way people show up later in life.
Being mocked, left out, misunderstood, or made to feel weak can create patterns that follow a person into adulthood.
For some men, that may show up as perfectionism.
For others, it may show up as anger, control, avoidance, emotional shutdown, or a need to be feared instead of understood.
That does not mean something is wrong with you.
It means there may be a pattern worth noticing.
And once you notice it, you have a better chance of changing how it affects your leadership, your marriage, and your sense of self.
Emotional Fitness Affects Your Relationship ❤️
Passion and intimacy require energy.
You cannot be physically depleted, mentally overloaded, emotionally guarded, and still expect your relationship to feel connected and satisfying.
Your partner feels the version of you that comes home. Your children feel it too. They notice how stress gets handled, how respect is shown, and whether affection and partnership are part of daily life.
That is why emotional fitness belongs in the conversation about marriage and business ownership.
Because your relationship cannot get the best of you if there is no best of you available.
